Tom Cruise Breaks Silence on Nicole Kidman After Decades
In a rare display of public admiration, Tom Cruise has praised his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, in a recent interview with the British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound magazine. Their last public mention surrounded the reasons for their 2001 divorce, which Cruise briefly addressed in a 2002 Vanity Fair interview. Now, the Top Gun: Maverick star has opened up about his and Kidman’s collaboration on the 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut.
A Collaborative Journey
Known as a loving couple throughout the ’90s, Cruise and Kidman starred as a married couple in Eyes Wide Shut, a compelling film by director Stanley Kubrick. The actor revealed in the interview how his own influence ensured Kidman would play alongside him. “I suggested Nicole play the role. Because obviously she’s a great actress,” Cruise stated, according to Deadline.

The film’s production was an extensive project, with Cruise and Kidman immersed in their roles over two years of filming. Kidman had recalled, “We shot that for two years,” highlighting their intense commitment to the project. The actors balanced their demanding schedules with personal time, engaging in activities like late-night go-kart racing to unwind.
